William Yon
Photographer, Architect, Engineer and Author
My professional life has led me to develop an eye for the built environment and appreciate the authenticity of places. As a principal at Gensler, I plan changes to the world, striving to make it a better, more hospitable place through design. Every day I use imagery and storytelling to connect people around projects. I believe photography to be a unique and powerful medium for bridging minds accross communities.
Just like children see pareidolias in skys and forests, to me landscape photography is about architecturizing nature, bringing forward structural lines which one could believe have been designed. Technique and gear allows me to capture crisp, life-like details - essential for fine arts prints. Then much of my creative process happens in post-production, where images shift towards the conceptual.
Once a picture has successfully captured the feeling of a place, it allows understanding, it creates the canvas for a shared narrative.
